Miközben a játékipar kékebbik része egyre hangosabban tereli a játékosokat a kizárólag digitális jövő felé, az Xbox egy meglepően fogyasztóbarát irányba mozdul. A vállalat elindította a Disc to Digital rendszer tesztelését az Xbox Insider programban, amelynek a lényege, hogy a fizikai Xbox-játékok tulajdonosai digitális jogosultságot párosíthatnak lemezeikhez. Magyarul: ha a programban szereplő játék lemezét egyszer beteszed a konzolod meghajtójába, a rendszer az adott címet úgy párosítja a fiókodhoz, mintha azt digitális verzióban vásároltad volna meg. Így a játékok megőrződnek akár generációkkal később is, amikor már rég vége lesz a lemezek korának.
A funkció állítólag a hivatalos rajtkor több mint kétezer címmel indul, és az Xbox ígérete szerint idővel tovább bővül a lista. Az Xbox Insider program tesztelői még épp csak a korai verziót próbálgatják, de már így is több mint 200 játék támogatja a Disct to Digital rendszerét.
